His Italian merchant father was a diplomat staioned in Bugia in what's now Algeria in North Africa and Fibonacci was able to travel with him around the Mediterranean world. This sequence has been studied since the publication of Fibonacci's book Liber Abaci. The Fibonacci sequence is named after Leonardo of Pisa, who was known as Fibonacci.
